Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment Vote blocked in Massachusetts

BOSTON -- Massachusetts lawmakers blocked a proposed constitutional amendment Thursday that would have let voters decide whether to ban gay marriage in the only state that allows it.

It is wonderful to see law-makers supporting the people's rights. The U.S constitution is designed to protect against the oppression of minority populations by larger ones. Putting such a decision to a "Vote of the people" is simply an attempt to circumvent the constitutionally protected rights of minorities.
